Berry me - simple and healthy dessert

It's only recently that I have really fallen in love with the array of berries that are now available. It seems the more we all become more health conscious, the more these things are availanble in our stores. I suppose this is a good thing, but I admit these fazes of chia. maca powder, quinoa, coconut juice, gluten free etc etc make me take all the information I read in magazines - with a cup of salt. I have no doubt that these things are good for us. But I do find it hard to digest the cost applied to some of these products.

So.....Berries .... I add them to our meals every chance I get. Salads, smoothies, chicken or stuffings, cocktails, desserts.  It is unfortunate that the frozen packaged ones are most convienient . Berries don't like the weather here in Perth. I did try growing some last year and they practically died right after putting them in the ground. Berry Fail.

My favourite is the Blueberry. It's one of the few naturally blue-hued foods humans eat, they are packed with antioxidant power, which comes from high levels of anthocyanins, a type of flavonoid or plant compound. They also contain significant amounts of micronutrients and fibre. (Reference: http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle)

For a quick dessert why not serve some blueberries in a dessert bowl, sift some icing sugar over them then add a good dollop of creme fresh with some chopped mint to garnish. There you have an easy, healthy and good looking dish.
