I quit sugar four years ago when I was pregnant with my first son. It was making me fat, sick, lethargic... miserable. It was hard, but I got there. The reward has been incredible. For me and my family.

What are the "THINGS" that hold you back from looking after your body and achieving goals you know are possible .. but for some reason just can't get there?

I can list the following things that have held me back .. and some of them still do..

Being tired, feeling bloated, what others think of me, not being in the right 'mood', not feeling good about myself, having a fat day, the dog chewed up my exercise shorts, everything is going wrong today!!,  a disagreement with a someone, self doubt, scared, ate too much rubbish - what's the point now, lack of motivation, losing sight of why, I haven't done anything in a few weeks - one more day won't make a difference, I don't have enough time, I'll start on Monday.......................

We all need incredible mental strength to take that first step and get past those sorts of excuses above...

Whether it be getting your gear on and going for a walk, run, bike ride, gym session, fitness class. I promise you will walk away feeling happier.

A few weeks ago, a lady in my spin class was setting her bike up to begin and said, "You know Mikhaela, I have no idea how I arrived in this room to take Spin with you. If I had thought about it too much this morning, I may not have come. And now that I am here I feel motivated to give it all I have got" HOW AWESOME IS THAT!! She had decided to come to Spin class the night before and that was it. Decision made. She COMMITTED to it.. and did not look back.

We also need a lot of mental strength (eg. willpower!) to say no to food we know isn't good for us. Switching the thought that unhealthy food tastes better than healthy food helps. Being prepared at home helps too. I find that not having the packaged fast foods in the pantry helps enormously. If the crisps are there, OF COURSE you are going to eat them! Having healthier options in your fridge and freezer make it an easier choice when you are hungry and tearing the kitchen apart looking for food to eat NOW> see some of my recipes for quick and healthy snacks for you to whip up..

Most of it is mental.

If I know I can. I believe I can.

If you don't believe in yourself, your ability, your willpower, your strength, your goals...

You will not get to where you want to be.

There is no doubt, support helps a lot too, so tell your friends and family about your goals. Ask them for encouragement. Ask them if they would care to join you?!

Just know that it starts with YOU.
